Ok, if you are over the age of 30, you probably knew exactly what I was refering to by this headline.  Generally speaking, its probably hard to imagine what the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald has to do with us here in the midwest, but I saw an article and thought it was interesting.

Everyone who has heard the song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot knows the story.  The Edmund Fitzgerald was a big, 700 foot freighter that sank on Lake Superior in 1975.

About a year or two later Gordon Lightfoot releases his song relating the story of the storm and the sinking of the ship pretty much insuring the legendary status of this boat with lyrics like "Does any one know where the love of God goes,   When the waves turn the minutes to hours"

Well, some 30 plus years later, a family is out rock hunting and comes across a life preserver from the Edmund Fitzgerald stuck in a tree.  It was a little beaten, chewed on by rodents, but still clear with the boat's name on it.

So, for what its worth, I just thought that was interesting.
