Spring has finally appeared. Lake temps are coming up but, as usually, so are the lake levels. If you think this is fustrating for you just, think what it's doing to the fish. Remember one thing, temps make a difference as well as day light hours. At the first, you'll find better fishing on sunny days during the late afternoon hours. The male fish move up 1st to locate where they wanna build a nest. As the temps rise and daylight hours get longer, they build the nest. They aint gonna leave it and will strike at anything that gets near it. Jigs set under a bobber will get these fish almost as fast as you reel them in. When the temps get right, somewhere from the upper 60's to lower 70's, the females will come to the nest and lay their eggs. After spawning the females leave and the male guards the nest till the eggs hatch. I like to try a bunch of different tactics at this time. Long poles trolling the banks will help you find the spawning areas and depths. Then back off and do some casting. A small stick bait that suspends will amaze you when you cast up to the bank and jerk it a couple of times and let it set. Also a split shot with a floating jig head dragged thru these area produce very well. Just about anything will catch them at this time. Get a 'clicker' to keep track of how many you catch and a measuring board to make sure you are within the law limits. Wading shallows will get them better than out of a boat. Enjoy, what most people think, is the 'ONLY' time to catch these wonerfull eating fish. See ya "On The Water".
